StretchSensor
Microelectronic sensor system based on shape memory alloy and stretchable circuit boards
goals and approach
The aim of the project is to develop a highly sensitive sensor film for the simple measurement of load distributions on component surfaces. To do this, thin-film sensors made of a shape memory alloy are integrated into stretchable circuit boards. This eliminates the need for complex wiring and the attachment of many individual sensors. The sensor film can be used to create individual sensor arrangements cost-effectively. The sensor properties are evaluated in a practical way on a test bench and in various applications. The targeted applications range from the structural assessment of lightweight components to the condition monitoring of rotor blades and predictive machine maintenance.
Innovations and Perspectives
The new sensor film will be distinguished from previous strain sensors by increased sensitivity, improved long-term stability and simplified assembly. Thanks to the scalable circuit board process, the sensor film can be used as a cost-effective series element in the automotive, wind power, mechanical engineering and medical technology sectors. The project will open up a wide range of promising markets for the SMEs involved.
