Pseudoelastic shape memory alloys (SMA)
Highly elastic strain sensors

Novel strain sensors made of shape memory alloys (SMA) can detect component stress robustly and with high accuracy. The proven long service life of the sensors enables the permanent and cost-effective monitoring of safety-relevant composite components. These innovative SMA strain sensors open up a wide range of innovative solutions for users. The sensors have the following advantageous properties:

-
high elastic strain of up to 10% due to the stress-induced phase transformation,
-
easy sensor integration into plastics and fibre composites (thermoset and thermoplastic),
-
easy measurement recording through electrical resistance change with high sensitivity (k-factor greater than 5),
-
cost-effective and suitable for large-scale production,

Numerous applications in the automotive industry, in rail vehicles, in mechanical and plant engineering, in sports equipment, in medical technology and in plastic components are being implemented and have already been realised.
